About An Óige Irish Youth Hostel Association
An Óige's Vision is to awaken the spirit of adventure! Our Purpose: To bring this vision into reality, we encourage and enable all but especially young people to expand their horizons through hostelling in Ireland and abroad. Our main objective is to help all, but especially young people, to a love and appreciation of the countryside, particularly by providing simple hostel accommodation for them whilst on their travels.
What's Involved
We in the An Óige Conservation Group are developing a Conservation Management Plan for the land (24 hectares) attached to the Knockree hostel at Knockree in Glencree, county Wicklow.
The overall objective of the plan is to end up with a site that has conserved, enhanced and restored habitats, ecosysrems and biodiversity which is sustainably used by the hostelling association, members and visitors. The site will be officially protected from exploitation and destruction and will be preserved for future generations, especially the young.
We are currently looking for volunteers with experience and relevant qualifications to join our team and help us with the following aspects of this worthwile project;
- Drawing up and implementing a Nature Conservation Plan.
- Sourcing funding from public and private sectors.
- Carry out habitat and ecological survey.
