Cork Deaf Enterprises

About Cork Deaf Enterprises

Cork Deaf Enterprises was founded in 1987 by friends and parents of the deaf community to provide training and employment opportunities for non-hearing or deaf people, and as a means of community service/social interaction for each employed person. Training for re-upholstery, french polishing and general furniture repairs are the main activities of the charity. FAS accreditation is offered following a successful training programme. Secondary activities include, furniture manufacturing, secretarial services, the establishment of a motor school for the deaf and the successful training of sign-language interpreters and tutors trained to diploma level. To date hundreds of deaf people have benefited from the charity, whilst those who have indirectly benefited run to thousands.

Cork Deaf Enterprises operate from Ballinlough, Cork where furniture can be dropped off, collected or delivered to customers. This interraction with the public is one part of their service, and one which their employed people enjoy taking part in.
